The two discussed what draws audiences to the triumphs and struggles of the legendary jazz singer, how McDonald sounds “a little bit like a cat” (Grizabella?!)  when putting on the voice, and that while she doesn’t share Holiday’s drug addiction, she does turn to a certain confection. If you follow her on Twitter, you might have an idea. After calling Colbert a “mother*cker” (endearingly, and as Holiday), McDonald broke out the soft lens and the grayscale filter to sing two numbers: “What a Little Moonlight Can Do” and “God Bless the Child.” Have a look at the interview and remarkable performances below!
