Twopronged approach to boost power infra in South 24Parganas

first_imgKolkata: West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) has taken up two-pronged approach to enhance infrastructure creation and also to reduce the loss caused due to tapping in various parts of South 24-Parganas.The WBSEDCL also aims to increase of service connection in the district. A holistic approach has also been adopted for the transformation of the whole region. South 24-Parganas is the biggest district of West Bengal with 9960 sq km area. WBSEDCL is the only licensee, except a small part of Garia, to provide power to 1.63 million customers. WBSEDCL has 48 33/11 KV sub-stations, 136 power transformers with 936 MVA capacity, 133 33 KV line, 261 11 KV line, 15,072 distribution transformers with total capacity of 962 MVA to cater power to all households of this district. The WBSEDCL has stressed upon enhancing distribution utility and to ensure connection to all consumers, proper meter reading and billing. If these things are followed properly, the losses will come down automatically. Timely generation of notice and disconnection of default consumers will also add value to it, the official said. Substantial ATC loss reduction has been noticed in South 24-Parganas Region in past 8 months. ATC loss has been reduced from 49.14 percent to 46.24 percent i.e. 2.9 percent. Although in LT part (without bulk), loss has been reduced by 3.72 percent. The official said they had introduced around 1,30,000 connections throughout the district in 8 months. He also pointed out meetings were held to hear the problems directly from station managers and act accordingly. There are some issues, including shortage of contractor manpower. “But, as a whole, it is not at all a problem. I just redistribute manpower and materials, including metres, and other materials from one part to another. Of course, computerised material management helps me a lot to find out where the actual materials are. Help of higher authorities in generation of work order to ensuring availability of meters and materials has also made this huge work a great success,” the official said.last_img
