Gram Panchayats heads given the task of nurturing saplings

first_imgHyderabad: With a determination to achieve success in the Telangana Haritha Haram (THH) programme at any cost, the State government has directed the Gram Panchayats to plant 40,000 saplings in each village during this monsoon season and nurture them. According to official sources, strict orders were given to the Sarpanches and the Panchayat Secretaries in this regard. They were warned of action if the sapling were properly nurtured and the success rate was low. The Sarpanches were given special instructions in this regard. The Mandal Parishad Development Officers were appointed as special officers for the programme. The Haritha Haram programme was included in the MGNREG scheme. The District Collectors have been holding regular meetings with the officials of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj. The workers who participate in the activities of THH would be paid from the NREG scheme. The officials said it has been decided to raise about 48 crore saplings in the Gram Panchayat. Each panchayat of the 12,850 GPs would plant 40,000 saplings during this monsoon season. Advertise With Us The district panchayat officials have been conducting awareness meetings. The Sarpanches have been given material on plantation and in organising the nurseries. The DPOs told the sarpanches and secretaries of the Gram Panchayats that the Panchayat Raj Act mandates raising the plants in the villages. It would be the responsibility of the secretaries and sarpanches to ensure plantations and their survival. They would be held responsible if the survival rate of the plants is low. Telanganaku Haritha Haram project is being implemented all over the State for the last five years. The objective of the government is to ensure 32 per cent of green cover all over the state.last_img
