Thursday 21 Jan – Tour Diary

first_imgGive us a rundown of your day?The day started off as usual with a team meeting at 9am in one of te player rooms. We then made our way to the stadium (The Trusts Stadium) where we are playing, for the official jersey presentation & team photos. It is always a proud moment receiving your Australian Jersey! We were lucky to have most of the afternoon off so our fearless leader Drummy (who knows his way around Auckland) suggested we visit Wai Wera Hot Baths for some R & R. Whilst is was very relaxing in the hot pools it was more fun taking each other on down the waterslides that were also there.  It was very amusing to see and hear our assistant coaches Peter Forrester and Paul Sfeir take on the slides as I don’t think they were designed for people of their structure! The bus trip home from the hot baths was alot quieter as most of the boys fell asleep. That night we had the official welcoming and opening with all the teams, referees and officials. Steve Price, Australian Rep, Queensland Rep, former and mighty Bulldog and now Auckland Warrior, was there as a guest speaker. He spoke about three things that have got him where he is today.Support, Sacrifice & HonestyIn brief, they meant:Support – From family, friends and the people around you.    Sacrifice – You need to make sacrifices to get to the top. Need to prioritise and work towards your goal.  Honesty – you have to be honest with yourself. Not to make excuses or look for other people to blame when things aren’t going your way.To finish up, I am really looking forward to this series. I am looking forward to playing the Kiwi’s on their home turf and wearing the Australian Colours. Much love to everyone back home. How is the team shaping up for the 2010 Trans Tasman? The team is looking really good for the Trans Tasman. There is a really strong feeling within the team as everyone is very tight and looking forward to taking on the Kiwi’s together. What is the Atmosphere like in the team?As mentioned before the team is very close and there is a good vibe amongst the players. There has been plenty of laughs (where the boys are comfortable enough around each other to let go of bodily gases). But also we know when to knuckle down & focus when it is time.Did you bring anything with you to make it feel more like home?My mum and my sister! What do you do before a big match to prepare physically and mentally?Nothing special. I try to do things as normal and to relax as much as possible which usually involves kicking back and watching a movie. On the way to the game I normally listen to music and start think about my role in the team.Explain to the players back home, what are your feelings when you running onto the field for an international match?First and foremost I obviously feel proud and honoured to wear the Aussie colours and represent my country!!!  There are a few nerves but also plenty of excitement.last_img read more

Northern Rockies gearing up to host NCLGA Annual General Meeting next week

first_imgFORT NELSON, B.C. – The Northern Rockies Regional Municipality says it is gearing up to host the 2018 North Central Local Government Association’s Annual General Meeting and Convention. The NCLGA, as the advocacy body for all local government officials in north central BC, has been “the Elected Voice of North & Central British Columbia” for 63 years. Members include cities, towns, Aboriginal communities, villages and regional districts. “As a non-partisan, non-profit association, we work specifically for the benefit of our members – communities whose voices are often left unheard because of their size or location,” said NCLGA president Shaely Wilbur, who is also a councillor for the City of Dawson Creek.  The Northern Rockies Regional Council said it was delighted at the chance to host 180 delegates from 41 member local governments when it bid to host the AGM last year. “The Road Ahead” is the theme for this year’s convention, signifying the growing amount of planning that local governments are undertaking, as they strive to become more efficient and responsive to the public. From May 7th – 10th, attendees will participate in tours such as “the Alaska Highway Experience” and “the Innovative Agriculture Tour”. The Fort Nelson First Nation will also be hosting and coordinating the “First Nations Cultural Experience”, where participants will be introduced to a way of life that is specific to this region’s indigenous peoples. Among the major topics due to be discussed at this year’s NCLGA meeting are: asset management, emergency management, the possibilities of tech and innovation, and the legalization of cannabis.“Hosting the NCLGA AGM is a welcome occasion to showcase the Northern Rockies and all that we have to offer, in our world-class recreation centre, and I’d like to give a warm welcome to everyone attending” said mayor Bill Streeper.last_img read more

Nothing wrong in holding elections during Ramadan Owaisi

first_imgHyderabad: MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday said elections during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan would have no impact on the voter turnout and slammed the political parties for raking up a controversy over this. The Hyderabad MP hoped that the poll percentage will be higher during Ramadan as more Muslims will go out and vote due to the high degree of spirituality they experience during the fasting month. “When Muslims fast they also go to offices and do their business. There are also labourers, rickshaw drivers and rickshaw pullers who fast. Their normal activity does not get affected,” he told the media here. Owaisi said since the states going to the polls during Ramadan will have a holiday on the day of polling, there would be no problem in Muslims casting their votes. “In fact during Ramadan they will be free from daily routine of cooking food and eating lunch.” The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) chief was reacting to reports that some Muslim leaders expressed dismay over the schedule announced by the Election Commission for the Lok Sabha elections with the three final phases falling during Ramadan. Owaisi said as the electoral process has to be completed by June 3 and if Ramadan starts on May 5 and ends on June 4, the Election Commission has no option but to hold elections during the period. He said it was wrong to say that because of Ramadan the polling percentage will be low. “I am telling you as a Muslim that my spiritualism and my nearness to Almighty Allah increases during Ramadan.” He found fault with the political parties raking up a controversy, saying they should not use Muslims for their political ends. “As a party you should be ready for whatever the requirements may be. If you are so worried what have you done for the community. Show your record.”last_img read more

UEFA warns clubs over scrapping the Champions League

first_imgUEFA has warned clubs to forget the idea of scrapping the Champions League in the bid to form a Super League, hinting hey would ‘no longer be great’Speaking at the 43rd UEFA Congress in Rome on Thursday morning, UEFA chief Aleksander Ceferin stood up to FIFA’s Gianni Infantino, asserting their ideas should be respected.“Respect also means telling our friends, family, colleagues, bosses, and partners when we disagree with them and when we think, in all humility, that they are wrong,” he explained.”What I can promise, is that, during this next term of office, we will work together to ensure that European football remains united, that European football remains respectful, respectable & respected, & that European football continues to demonstrate solidarity and bring hope.”— UEFA (@UEFA) February 7, 2019“It is often the yes-men who lure leaders to their demise. And conversely, it is often those who disagree in a measured, reasonable and constructive way, even if they sometimes do so in a direct, uncompromising fashion, who do them the greatest service, help them move forward and prevent them from making mistakes.“By telling FIFA that we disagree with their current proposals on the global Nations League and Club World Cup, we show them respect and we show respect to football, the game we love and the game we must protect.“We sincerely hope that FIFA will also show us respect by listening to our views… UEFA and European football deserve to be respected.Top 5 Atletico Madrid players to watch in next week’s UCL Tomás Pavel Ibarra Meda – September 14, 2019 With the Champions League about to start, we need to start talking about the Top 5 Atletico Madrid players to watch in the competition.Atletico…“As long as [ECA chief] Andrea Agnelli and I are in charge of these two organisations there will be no Super League. It is a fact. He disclosed via Football Italia.“[If clubs had split from the Champions League], they would have lost their status as great clubs in the hearts of the people. The only thing great about you would be your past.“Trust me, you will not regret [taking a stand against cynicism and greed].””It means thinking of our society, our children, future generations, our planet”#CommonGoal member Aleksander Čeferin, in his speech marking his re-election as @UEFA President, expressed the need for the football community to have a strong social and humanitarian vision!— Common Goal (@CommonGoalOrg) February 7, 2019The organisation equally praised the FIGC for its handling of racism in recent times. The FIGC recently announced plans to tighten up anti-racism procedure at matches after Kalidou Koulibaly was abused during Napoli’s 1-0 defeat to Inter on Boxing Day, as well as ordering the Nerazzurri to play two games behind closed doors.“The FIGC acted in the right way. It made the right choices,” concluded Ceferin.last_img read more

Dodge is keen to give people even more of a reason to look at the Charger Hellcat with its new $1,495 Octane appearance package, which it announced on Tuesday. The Octane package is available in either Pitch Black or White Knuckle looks on the exterior, though both are graced with a matte black racing stripe with red accents. The trim and exterior badging are also blacked out.Inside, things get a little more interesting with the availability of SRT Performance seats for the first time in a Charger Hellcat. These come with red accent stitching as well as black and white houndstooth inserts, red seatbelts and gloss black interior trim. The rest of the package is pure, good old’ fashioned Hellcat — oh, except for the 20-inch forged Cross Brace wheels.
